St Martin's Cathedral
The most important building of the Spišská Kapitula, located in the surroundings of the Spiš Castle, registered in the world cultural and natural heritage of UNESCO, is St. Martin's Cathedral. It took the form of a three-nave building with two towers in 1275. Later, a chapel was added to it, which was replaced by the current Zápoľský Chapel, modeled after the French Saint Chapelle. Various modifications by construction activities did not leave much of the original in me. The main altar was also modified according to the taste of the time during the regotization. Side altars that have not been modified are rare. There is also a stone sculpture of the lion Leo Albus from the 13th century, which is one of the oldest of its kind in Slovakia. The unusual wall painting with the motif of the coronation of Karol Róbert as the Hungarian king is also interesting. A statue of St. John of Nepomuck from 1732 stands in front of the western facade of the cathedral.
