Dlouhé stráně Pumped Storage Power Station

Riding through the tranquil pathways of the Jeseníky Mountains, my heart raced for two reasons: the uphill climb and the sheer excitement of seeing the Dlouhé stráně Pumped Storage Power Station, hailed as one of the wonders of the Czech Republic. The pedals beneath my feet blurred as I approached the base, casting my gaze over the lower station. The structures spoke of human innovation, juxtaposed against the serene backdrop of nature. It's astounding to think of what it represents – an eco-friendly energy reserve. Using excess energy from the grid during low-demand periods, it pumps water up from the lower reservoir to the upper one. And when there's a need for electricity during peak times, water is released to rush back down, turning turbines and generating power. It's a harmonious balance between man's needs and nature's resources. As I pedalled onwards, the path began to ascend. I put more effort into each turn of the wheel, sensing the thrill. Not just from the exertion but from the architectural marvel that lay ahead. As the incline progressed, the upper reservoir, a marvel itself, began to appear. It wasn't just any reservoir. They had gouged out the top of the hill to create this vast holding of waters, its surface reflecting the azure sky, the surrounding mountains acting as nature's crown. Reaching the top, I paused, leaning over my handlebars to catch my breath. The panoramic view was worth every drop of sweat. From this vantage point, it wasn't just the power station that captivated me, but the entirety of the Jeseníky Mountains. Majestic in their grandeur, the peaks stretched out endlessly. There, standing tall among them, was Praděd, the highest of all, its peak piercing the clouds. I marvelled at the blend of human ingenuity and nature's grand design. From the unique mechanism of the power station, harnessing energy in harmony with nature, to the breathtaking beauty of the Jeseníky Mountains, this was a ride, and a day, I would never forget.
