Vlkolinec

I am located in the Veľká Fatra National Park, in the local part of Ružomberok. I am one of the most visited Slovak settlements. Here you can find an extremely remarkable oasis of folk architecture, which has also been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. I was mentioned for the first time in 1376. As the only village in Slovakia, I am in no way disturbed by new construction and represent a unique set of original folk buildings. I was originally a settlement of loggers, shepherds and farmers. I was evaluated as the best-preserved residence of this type in the Carpathian arc. I am an example of a typical two-row street with long yards. Approximately in the middle, I split into two streets. One of them leads to the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, and the other leads down a steep hill to the foot of Sidorovo hill. In the center of the settlement stand the two most photographed objects of Vlkolínec - a log two-story bell tower from 1770 standing on a stone plinth and a log well from 1860. The protected objects of the settlement include 45 wooden houses with farmyards from the 18th century. The way they were edited was unique. Twice a year they were painted with blue, pink and white lime paint. A typical example of a Vlkolínec house is a peasant house - one of the exhibits of the Liptovský Museum in Ružomberok. It has a well-preserved division and the interior design shows the way of life of the inhabitants of the settlement from the 19th century. Other buildings in the monument reserve are inhabited. There are 30 residents living here, so visitors have to be content with just looking at their exterior. Several interesting events are also held during the summer.
