Potato pancakes

This traditional, simple and tasty dish you can meet on the table in Poland in every home. How to make them? It is very easy! Potato pancakes (as the name suggests) are made of potatoes with the addition of onions, eggs, a bit of flour and salt and pepper. The best way to make them is to use potatoes with a high starch content. Young potatoes are not suitable for making pancakes because they contain too much water. Grated, raw potatoes are mixed with the rest of the ingredients, then just baked in a pan and voila. They are served hot, right after baking. It is a Polish invention, but it has also been present in other European cuisines for a long time. Interestingly, potato pancakes have many varieties. Everyone has their own recipe. A long time ago, they were served alone, i.e. without additions. Over time, richer homes began to add cream with sugar, fatty lard or meat-based sauces and other additives. Did you know that this dish has its own festive day? On November 13, Potato Pancakes Day is celebrated. This is a big honour for this dish, especially since long ago it was the dish of poor people who could not afford anything else.
