Codification of literary Slovak

Under the influence of the difficult social position, the national oppression of the Slovaks and the pan-European tendencies of the growing national emancipation movement, in the 1930s we created a strong revolutionary patriotic generation. It was headed by us: Ľudovít Štúr, Jozef Miloslav Hurban and Michal Miloslav Hodža. Thanks to us, the process of building the Slovaks into a modern nation, which began to demand its status under state law, has significantly advanced. An important step in this process was the codification of literary Slovak. We adopted the principles of the new literary language at the meeting of Štúr, Hurban and Hodža in Hlboké in 1843, which Štúr later elaborated in the work “Nauka reči slovenskej”. Although attempts to codify Slovak language also occurred in the previous period, Štúr's Slovak proved to be the most suitable, viable and acceptable for the entire nation.
