Puszta
Oh, how I love those hot summer days when I can run freely, literally like a whirlwind through the desert! After all, it's no surprise that I'm moving like a whirlwind, because I am one. I spend all my summers in the puszta, or as it is perhaps better known nowadays, on the Hortobágy. Wonderful scenery! On the one hand, it is almost completely flat and very dry in the summer, so I can stir up the salty dust without any problems, and on the other hand, it is full of sights. And the wildlife! Among the domestic animals, the grey cattle, the racka sheep, the mangalica pigs and the nonius horse – none of them are everyday sights, but the beautiful birdlife also cheers me up every time, although believe me, there is no bird on earth that I have not seen. Not many people live here, but there is no shortage of visitors. They are called tourists. I see that they love the landscape, the crane wells, and of course the inns. I remember when the inns were still visited by outlaws, and of course by the police – who wanted to catch the outlaws. Although these games of cat and mouse were sometimes good fun, life was much calmer without the outlaws, because no matter how cool they looked, they were definitely criminals. Instead of the bad guys, I was left with a spacious, open plain. Well, I did better.
