Ještěd Tells Its Story

Perched proudly in the heart of the Czech Republic, I, the hill of Ještěd, have watched over the region for millennia. My shape has always been a defining landmark for the region, but it wasn't until the 20th century that I was graced with a new companion that became emblematic of both my form and the spirit of the age. In the 1960s, a decision was made to build a structure atop me – a tower to serve as both a transmission site and a hotel. It was architect Karel Hubáček who envisioned a design that would not merely sit atop me, but instead, complement my natural silhouette. And so, the Ještěd Tower came to be. The tower's design is unique, combining hyperboloid and conical shapes that seamlessly extend my natural slope, making it hard to discern where I end and the tower begins. Hubáček's creation won the prestigious Perret Prize from the International Union of Architects. Not just a technical marvel, the tower became a symbol of Czech modern architecture and a reflection of a nation looking to the future. Within the tower, guests can find a hotel and a restaurant, allowing visitors to stay and dine almost a thousand meters above sea level. From its windows, one can witness panoramic views that stretch out for miles: the Bohemian panorama in all its glory. Over the decades, I've felt the footsteps of countless visitors, all coming to experience the architectural marvel of Ještěd Tower. They come in search of history, modernist design, and breathtaking views. Many leave with memories of sunsets that paint the sky in hues of gold and crimson, and nights where the stars seem just a touch away. Together, we've withstood the test of time, challenges of weather, and shifts in political landscapes. In return, I offer a steadfast foundation to the Ještěd Tower, and it graces me with a modern elegance that resonates with all who visit. As the years roll on, the tower and I remain a testament to the marriage of nature and architecture, history and progress. Here, atop the Czech landscape, we stand united, a beacon for all to see, and a story waiting to be told.
